Our plans – update

I’m happy to announce some of the plans for the following weeks and months.

PPA for gmusicbrowser and new layouts

gmusicbrowser is a music player written in Perl. We think its most important feature is its configurability in terms of layouts, and pretty much everything else as well. We’ve been building a good-looking layout, polishing the overall look, adding new icon themes and even drawn new logo for our own little branch. In the following weeks we continue working on the #1 layout, but also creating some new ones for different purposes.

You can try out the stuff we done in Ubuntu by installing gmusicbrowser by adding the PPA of Shimmer Project to your system and upgrading/installing the package gmusicbrowser. Any feedback on the theme is welcome on both #shimmer and #gmusicbrowser at Freenode.

Shortlist of themes

We really think xfce-look.org is too cluttered and full of not-that-beautiful, definitely-not-polished themes (and other stuff). Some of the themes are even just some bad ripoffs of some other GTK+ and only promote theirselves with good-looking wallpapers. Shame on you.

This project fights against disorganization. We’re practically going to test loads of existing Xfce (xfwm as well as GTK+ and icon) themes and making a shortlist on the finest ones we found.

How does Shimmerlist sound for its name?

    I can’t believe anyone is up to this!

    Something like “Shimmerlist” would be awesome! Hmm… for a better name, what do you think about:
    - ShimmerGlimmer
    - Shimmering.org (taken?)
    - ShimmeringWidgets

    Hope that helps and I hope you get more feedback than this!

    Hey Paul-Sebastian!

    Nice to hear you’re as excited about the list as we are. I just migrated our rough list so far to our wiki – navigate to wiki.knome.fi/shimmer:shimmerlist.

    What comes about the name, Shimmerlist is an obvious name for the list, since it’s a list by Shimmer. By the way, Shimmering(s) was something we thought when trying to figure out what to call the project – so not a bad proposal at all!

    If can think of any themes we should look at (whether at xfce-look.org or somewhere else), feel free to send me or Simon (or both) email or join us at #shimmer on the Freenode IRC network.
