Bluebird

Bluebird makes glory to…

The GTK+ theme is based on Zuki Blues by Lars Kongo (lassekongo83), and the xfwm theme is based on axiom by Rogier Koppejan (roog).

We recently added a metacity theme to get Compiz/Gnome support.

There will be a GTK3 version of Bluebird?

  • Simon Steinbeiß, September 28, 2011 08:50

    hey danilo,
yes it’s planned. but i just finished the port of greybird to gtk3 and that was a huge pain in the a**, so i think i’ll have to take a little break before doing this again…
thanks for requesting it though, gives me a little extra motivation to really do it :)

  • Danilo Sanchez, September 28, 2011 12:55

    Thanks for you answering!
Bluebird is the most beautiful theme for Xfce in my opinion. I use it instead of Greybird, but in Xubuntu 11.10 there will be GTK3 applications and I won’t be able to use Bluebird :-(
PS1: Sorry for posting in Bluebird and Greybird page. Please delete the post in Greybird page.

  • Danilo Sanchez, September 28, 2011 13:10

In time: Greybird is as good as Bluebird, but I prefer blue themes. If there is not GTK3 version of Bluebird I’ll use Greybird without problems because it’s the second most beautiful theme in my opinion.

  • Egon Rath, October 17, 2011 09:09

Hello Simon! Thank you for planning to port Bluebird over to gtk3 – in my opinion, Bluebird is one of the most beautiful and productive themes available, so it would be a sad thing to see it slowly dying because of the ever growing amount of gtk3 applications.

  • Simon Steinbeiß, October 20, 2011 13:53

thanks! i’ll do my best to make this happening soonish.
if any of you want to help out feel free to contact me.

  • Lawand, October 23, 2011 12:45

What kind of help do you need? I am a programmer not a designer but maybe I can help testing. I am so used to bluebird and after updating to Xubuntu 11.10 I can’t comfortably use my laptop anymore :S

  • Michał, October 31, 2011 13:35

    I love it!
It’s so beautiful, simple and elegant that I feel my productivity increased tenfold :)
I’d love to see it ported to gtk3 as well.

Many thanks for sharing Bluebird with us!

  • Bernard, November 21, 2011 10:48

I love the Bluebird theme, use it on my Linux Mint 9, 10 and 11 installs during the last months.
Hope you find the time to make a GTK3 version. I would love to continue to use Bluebird on Mint 12 now that they upgraded gnome.

I think bluebird is extremely beautiful!

  • David, December 2, 2011 20:25

I am a gnome 3 refugee having switched to xubuntu 11.10 from Fedora. I really love the bluebird theme but some apps now look ugly unless I use now new default greybird theme.

I hope you update bluebird so it eventually becomes the default theme which it deserves.

  • Pasi Lallinaho, December 10, 2011 17:19

    Hey Michał, Bernard and David,

Bluebird is being ported to GTK3 during the current Xubuntu development cycle, which means things should be working much better at last at April next year.

    David,

There is no plans to make Bluebird the default Xubuntu theme for now (it already was the default theme once). I don’t say it’s completely impossible, but most possible options is keeping Greybird or changing to something completely new. Bluebird is going to be shipped with the default Xubuntu installation for the foreseeable future, though.

    Thanks for the praise,
    Pasi

  • Simon Steinbeiß, December 14, 2011 15:29

let me just quickly add that you can always find the “status quo” of bluebird in our github-repository. there’s an initial gtk3 version, but it’s highly unfinished and has quite a few rough edges. but it might be better than nothing and/or having to wait until april ;)

  • Danillo, January 2, 2012 13:54

Hey! Another Danillo here, also showing my love for Bluebird and Xubuntu! =)

In addition to the lack of theming for Gtk+3 applications, when I try to use Bluebird in Xubuntu 11.10, the title bars of Firefox and Thunderbird show some ugly divisors. Will that be taken care of too?

I’m really looking forward to the Gtk+3 port! Congratulations for this beautiful theme and thank your for your work!

  • elav, January 5, 2012 00:21

    Hi:

First of all: Great Job!!. Bluebird is my favorite Xfce theme. It would be nice to continue fixing bugs and maintaining this excellent theme. Also, feel the same way that Danilo, Thunderbird looks pretty ugly, but still continue using it: D

    Congratulations!!! I love it

  • Simon Steinbeiß, February 7, 2012 11:50

Thanks for pointing out issues in Thunderbird. I’ll try to focus on the gtk3 port this week so I might as well fix a few other things. There’ll be a new release as soon as all of this is usable ;)

  • Achour, September 8, 2012 15:38

I love this theme and you did such a wonderfull work with the Gnome 3 version!
    Congrats!

  • jonyamo, October 2, 2012 23:00

First off, let me just say that Bluebird is my favorite GTK theme of all time. Gorgeous! Now… is it possible to share a basic color palette? I prefer to use the i3 window manager and while I can just use the Bluebird theme for my GTK apps I would like to also be able to theme my i3 windows with the same colors.

I have just been digging through the theme files testing out all the different hex codes and while I think I’ve got it pretty close it would be great to use an official color palette to compare to.

Thanks and keep up the great work!
